  1. Logpile

I went to Brandon Marsh Nature reserve today armed with my macro lens to take photos of insects.  Whilst I got some shots that are good record shots, this shot, taken with my S90 was one of my favourites of the day.

I spotted the logpile in amongst a wonderful sea of ferns on the edge of a wooded area that I rarely visit.  I couldn’t get far enough away to get a really good shot with my macro, so took my compact out of my pocket and took this instead.

I like the restricted colours, just shades of green and brown, and the different textures.  The featheriness of the ferns and the solidity of the wood.  I also like the layers and the fact that the stack of logs takes your eye to the back of the picture.  What I don’t like is the weed on the left and the twigs in the top right – mmm….maybe some cropping is in order?

It sums up a wood in a nature reserve, the ferns give a feeling of quiet and stillness, whereas, in reality, the woodpile although itself dead, is probably teeming with life.

I had the S90 set on Program, and it chose ISO80, 1/125secs at f/4.0, 9.64mm.
