I took this picture with my Canon S90 – in an ideal world I would have taken my EOS400D with me and got a sharper, better shot. However, I console myself with the fact that without the S90 there would have been no picture. I hadn’t planned to visit Badby Woods on this particular afternoon, and, when we got there, having decided to take my parents-in-law to see the bluebells we were a bit concerned that the flowers were not at their best.
However, we walked on a fair amount and started to see the blue haze as the bluebells increased in number. It gets to the point where you cannot distinguish between them and they just blur.
The woods were just a riot of colour – if you knew where to look. The blue was particularly set off by the lime green of the fresh birch and beech trees. Add the red bark of the pine trees into the mix and the result, should there be a dash of sunshine, is just spectacular.
What I liked about this location is that the leaves at the end of the line look as though they are layered and also start to take on a hazy appearance – it was even better in the flesh.
The light was unfortunately not the best (although not as bad as had been forecast), so the camera chose ISO320, 1/100secs at f/4.0 and a focal length of 14.976.
