When is a lot of contrast too much contrast? And, am I becoming obsessed with steps.

The first of a series of photos from an Urban Photography course. I found it difficult to find pictures that I would normally take when in a completely unfamiliar environment, but this is closer to my usual style.

Sometimes something you are passing just catches your eye…

The camera club project this year is not overly inspiring, I do not have any intention of taking part, but, if I did…………

At last, there is some daylight out there – time to get the camera out and see what is growing in the garden.

Silhouettes can give a different view of something seen every day.
Flowing and still water can make a good contrast especially if there is a sense of movement and noise.

Another example of me trying to find something interesting to take a picture of whilst not straying too far from home.

Sometimes an accident turns out to be serendipitous.

Conveniently cut into thirds, with bright colours and a strange depth, sometimes there is no particular reason why a photo appeals.

More lines, this time diagonal with reflections and a circle thrown in for good measure.
Two points in a photo should create some tension, but only if positioned correctly.

Close ups of leaves can highlight a lot of detail that you would otherwise miss.

A limited range of colours can make a photo feel quite subdued, but, that is something that a photo sometimes needs.

Landscape photography is not just about taking long distance shots of hills and trees, sometimes a macro lens is the best option for taking shots of the ‘intimate landscape’.

The light was good, I had a camera in my hand and I wanted a different flower shot – instead I got one of my best abstract shots – sometimes things turn out better than originally planned.
