Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or photographer. This picture reminds me of the reason I like living in Northamptonshire.

As you may have guessed, I am a little obsessed with taking pictures of Northamptonshire, particularly the Daventry area. I think I live in an underrated county, and the rolling hills and farmland are prettier than it is given credit for. At the moment, everything appears to be yellow as many of the fields surrounding Daventry have been planted with Rapeseed this year.

This is a view from the dam at the Country Park. There are a number of things I like about it. First up is the s-curve winding through the field, taking your eye from front to back. I also like the colours, the yellow of the field and the fresh green of the foliage at this time of year.

In addition, there are the layers, those that you see as you look further into the picture, and those of the clouds, massing in the sky.

Most of all though, I like this picture because it reminds me of home – after all, I can be sentimental at times.

I took this picture with my Canon S90, it is on the P setting at the moment, so it chose ISO 80, 1/125 secs, and f/4.0 to go with the zoom of 14.976mm that I ‘chose’.

A typical Northamptonshire agricultural, Summer scene.

At last I hear you say, something that isn’t an insect.
This is a picture that I took on a sunny Sunday afternoon in August. We were out for a walk, there were lots of trails in the blue sky, and I liked the textures of the fields, the hay and the clouds. (I was also on the lookout for potential cloud pictures for Badby Photo Club’s set subject competition next year.)
This is just an ordinary field on the edge of a couple of housing estates on the north side of Daventry – nothing special. However, because I quite like Daventry, and we often go for a walk around this way, it is special to me. So, more of a sentimental photo than expert composition, but, is there a problem with that? I don’t think so, if your pictures do not mean anything to you, is there any point in taking them?

For the record, I took this picture with my Canon IXUS 60 compact camera which doesn’t allow many changes to settings, the settings it chose were 12.1mm, f/8.0, 1/500sec and, I think, because it keeps it a secret from me, I had it set on ISO100.
